Tragic find in search for missing fisherman

Police have found the body of a 49-year-old fisherman on a beach after he went missing at sea.

Early on Wednesday morning, police and SES recommenced a search and rescue operation for Adam Muir at Kurrimine Beach, about 100km south of Cairns on the Cassowary Coast.

Mr Muir was reported missing on Tuesday at 2.30pm when he failed to return from a fishing trip. 

Search parties found the man's boat about 8km north of the Kurrimine Beach boat ramp.

Initial investigations indicated the man had departed the boat ramp before his vessel broke down. 

Mr Muir was found dead on the beach a short distance away.

Its understood Mr Muir faced rough weather and was swept to sea where he drowned.

Police have said they're not treating the death as suspicious. 

Queensland Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

There was no evidence to suggest Mr Muir was attacked by a crocodile, according to the Cairns Post.

Online, Kurrimine locals were saddened to hear of the Mr Muir's death.

Many offered condolences to the family and friends of the man, while others thanked police and SES workers for the swift search.
