Passengers outraged after bus driver stops for 10 MINUTES mid-shift for a bizarre reason

  • Bus company Kinetic currently investigating

Furious passengers have erupted after their bus driver stopped for '10 minutes' to pick up a takeaway coffee.

Video of the bizarre episode shows the Kinetic employee on the Gold Coast strolling back onto the stalled vehicle after stepping off at a Southport café.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate slammed the bus driver as 'selfish' for putting his personal caffeine hit before his job.

'Buy an urn, make some coffee at home and have it available so you don't inconvenience your passengers,' he told 7News.

'It's about service... and that's what I'd say to the bus driver. It's a matter for the state government because that's who runs the buses, but... you're there to serve, not to (convenience yourself) and inconvenience others.

'You can just take a sip when you finish your shift or in between but it's the ultimate rudeness, really.'

However some social media users were sympathetic towards the driver and hit back at the Mayor.

'What would Tom prefer a driver taking a break or a fatigue driver crashing a bus?' one person asked.

Another said: 'After seeing how bus drivers (especially bus drivers on the Gold Coast) are treated, let the man have his coffee!'

Kinetic told Daily Mail Australia no official complaint had been received and that an internal inquiry is currently underway.

'Bus drivers are provided breaks during their shift and while no complaint has been received, Kinetic is investigating this incident,' the company said.
