Gooseberry Hill: Woman is fighting for life after having her neck slashed - as suspected knifeman barricades himself a home

A woman is fighting for life after being slashed in the neck by an alleged knifeman who has holed up inside a home, sparking a siege with police.

Paramedics rushed to Gooseberry Hill, in the east of Perth, home at about 5pm on Tuesday after a woman in her 60s was found with life-threatening stab wounds to her neck and torso.

The woman was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital, reportedly in a critical condition.

It's understood neighbours discovered the woman in a garden and called for help shortly after. 

A large police operation is currently underway at the address with tactical officers in attendance. 

One neighbour told the media she became aware of the incident after two police cars went 'screeching by' along the street followed by more shortly after.
