Tories plot to oust Sir Lindsay Hoyle to stop him becoming Sir Keir Starmer's 'patsy' if Labour wins the General Election
Senior Tory MPs want Sir Lindsay Hoyle ‘sacked now’ to stop him becoming Sir Keir Starmer’s ‘patsy’ if Labour wins the General Election.
One MP last night warned that if the Speaker ‘was prepared to do Sir Keir’s bidding now, what would he be like if Labour had a Commons majority?’.
By last night, a total of 71 MPs – 40 Tories, 30 SNP and one Independent – had backed a motion of no confidence in Sir Lindsay.
They include six senior members of the Tories’ 1922 Committee, including chairman Sir Graham Brady.
‘We have to get rid of Hoyle now to prevent him from being Starmer’s patsy after the Election,’ one MP told the MoS.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle has been under threat since his decision to allow a vote on a Labour motion during last Wednesday’s debate on Gaza
But former Cabinet Minister David Davis said the Tory plotters were ‘deluding themselves’ and branded it ‘just folly’ to remove Sir Lindsay who was ‘a good Speaker’. He warned that a ‘ruthless’ Sir Keir would remove any replacement ‘Tory Speaker’.
The Speaker has said his decision to allow a vote on a Labour motion during last Wednesday’s debate on Gaza (left) was based on fears for MPs’ safety.
The MoS understands that more than ten women MPs, both Labour and Tory, had received threats – including death threats – before the debate.
Some Tory MPs believe that Sir Lindsay will be forced to resign if the Government allows time for a no-confidence vote.
