Australia Post warn drivers about dangers to posties as footage shows shocking crashes

Shocking figures have shown more posties are getting injured on roads across Australia, with many involved in dangerous accidents. 

Australia Post has urged motorists to be mindful of posties after concerning figures showed 65 workers were injured on the road in the last year.

Many have suffered serious injuries including broken limbs, major cuts and bruisers, and concussions.  

It's forced several Australia Post drivers to be rushed to hospital as a result of their injuries. 

Terrifying video has emerged of several posties colliding with cars, with one driver knocked off his vehicle while entering an intersection in a suburban street. 

The postie gets swiped by a garbage truck before his vehicle is sent flying to the curbside, leaving the driver clutching his leg in pain. 

According to Australia Post, one postie is injured every week by getting knocked over by cars and trucks. 

General Manager of Safety and Wellbeing at Australia Post, Rod Maule, said more care needs to be taken to protect posties.

'While we want our team to deliver for all Australians, we also want each of them to safely get home to their families at the end of the day,' he said.   

'Safety is our number one priority, which is why we've invested millions of dollars into advanced technology and training to keep our team safe on the road'. 

Mr Maule said drivers also need to play a part in ensuring posties can use the roads more safely. 

'But it isn't just up to us – we are asking all drivers to be alert and keep an eye out for our Posties, especially over the next few months as we ramp up deliveries in the lead up to Christmas,' Mr Maule said.

Roads across NSW are the most dangerous for posties, with the state recording the highest amount of accidents involving postal delivery drivers. 

Drivers have been urged to slow down and to check streets and lanes before heading off.
