Massive car rego discount on offer for thousands of drivers - but you have to be quick to claim it

Nearly 10,000 Aussie drivers are yet to claim a discount that could save them hundreds - and with only one day left of the scheme, time is running out.

Claims for NSW's Toll Relief registration scheme close on June 30, under which eligible motorists can claim back half or all of their annual vehicle registration costs.

If motorists in the state have spent $877 to $1,461 during the previous financial year, they could be eligible for half-price 12-month registration.

For motorists who have spent $1,462 and over on tolls, they could be eligible for free rego.

To be eligible, drivers must be a NSW resident, be driving a NSW privately registered light vehicle, and have a personal toll account such as Linkt or E-Toll.

Licence plates must be linked to drivers' personal toll account, and motorists' current licence plate numbers and contact details must be up to date with their toll providers.

Heavy vehicles or those registered for any use other than private will not be covered by the scheme, nor will drivers who paid tolls on the M5 South-West who opted into the M5 South-West Cashback Scheme.

The discounted registration is valid for just one eligible vehicle linked to a toll account, meaning individuals or households with multiple licence plate numbers linked to the same account can only choose one vehicle to apply the Toll Relief to.

In 2022, Sydneysiders forked out about $2billion in tolls, with NSW eclipsing Queensland and Victoria's toll roads of six and three respectively with a whopping 13 toll roads.

The previous NSW state government implemented the Toll Relief Rebate Scheme earlier this year, allowing motorists who spend more than $375 per financial year on tolls to claim back 40 per cent of costs.

Motorists are still able to claim this cash back, capped at a maximum claim of $750 in a year, regardless of the registration scheme.

Eligible motorists have until June 30 to apply for the registration scheme on the Service NSW website.
