Two arrested over pensioner's 'fish supper' death
Police today arrested a man and a woman in connection with the murder of a pensioner who died after she was mugged for a £2 fish supper.
Partially sighted Marie Watson, 77, was the victim of a violent robbery as she made her way home from her local chip shop in Heaton, Newcastle.
Mrs Watson, a widow, suffered broken ribs and a broken arm, as well as severe bruising to the body and face, and she later died as a result of "medical complications", police said.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said a man and a woman had been arrested this morning in connection with Mrs Watson's murder.
She said no ages for the pair were being given.
