Crying girl clue to missing Milly
Two motorists have reported seeing a girl fitting the description of missing teenager Amanda Dowler after she disappeared, detectives revealed today.
The drivers both said they saw 13-year-old Amanda, who is known as Milly, looking as if she was crying.
Police have also had a report of a girl talking to the driver of a car near where she was last seen.
The two sightings of an upset girl were ten minutes apart and both were made near teenager's home shortly after the last definite sighting of her.
The last definite sighting was when she left a railway station in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, to walk home two weeks ago.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Gibson said the first motorist was driving along Rydens Road shortly after 4pm on the day the teenager vanished.
He reported seeing a girl in school uniform crying at the junction with Sidney Road.
About 10 minutes later another driver saw a girl looking upset at Walton Park junction close to the missing girl's home.
Both drivers said the girl fitted Amanda's description. Detectives have also had a report of a young girl talking to the driver of a blue Saab car in Rydens Road.
Mr Gibson said: "We really need the girl to come forward.
"If it's you, please contact us, we need to eliminate you from our inquiries.
"The public may also be able to help us confirm whether these are the last sightings of Millie or of someone else."
He also appealed for the girl seen talking to the driver of the blue Saab to come forward.
"If you were that driver or that person talking to the motorist, please call us," he said.
