Peter Mandelson to take seat in the Lords on Monday
Business Secretary Peter Mandelson will take his seat in the Lords next week
Peter Mandelson will take his seat in the Lords next week.
After a ceremony in the House on Monday, the controversial Business Secretary will be able to take his place as Lord Mandelson.
It will not be known until the introduction ceremony if he will extend his title to include a geographical name such as Hartlepool, his former constituency.
A Lords spokesman said there was no requirement for him to do so as there had never been a Mandelson made a peer before.
He added: 'It is a practical measure used when a peer with a common name, such as Smith, needs to differentiate himself from the others. Any peer can decide what they wish their title to include.'
Mr Mandelson - who has twice been forced to resign from the Cabinet - joked that his appointment would be 'third time lucky' after the former EU trade commissioner was brought back into Government last week by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
