Al Qaeda bomb chief is killed in shootout
An Al Qaeda leader in Iraq who masterminded a series of bombings in Baghdad has been shot dead.
Coalition troops surrounded a building in the Adhamiya area of Baghdad on Friday after reports that Mahir Ahmad Mahmud Judu' al-Zubaydi - also known as Abu Rami - was inside.
Military spokesman Rear Admiral Patrick Driscoll said that soldiers were shot at and returned fire, killing Abu Rami and a woman.

Members of Abu Rami's network are believed to be responsible for suicide bomb attacks on Thursday which killed 16 Shi'ite worshippers as they gathered at mosques.
Abu Rami was also suspected of car bombings and mortar attacks, one of which killed more than 200 people. A 2006 video recording showed him shooting a Russian diplomat.
Rear Admiral Driscoll added: 'His removal will send shockwaves through Baghdad's terrorist bombing networks.'
