Play your currencies right! Where are each of these foreign notes from and are they 'higher' or 'lower' against the pound since the Brexit vote?
- Pound has suffered since EU referendum in June
- The currency crash has hit holidaymakers hard
- This is Money tests your note knowledge with the quiz below
We are four months on from Britain's decision to leave the EU and since then, as most people will be aware, the pound has plunged against major currencies across the globe.
Will it be a short-term blip or will it recover? At the moment, without a crystal ball, it is difficult to tell.
One thing is for sure – we love our currency, with plenty of wannabe numismatists around the country. The topic of coins and notes has proved wildly popular on This is Money, whether it be the coins worth a mint which could turn up in your change to the new polymer £5 notes selling for a tidy sum online.
Pounded: Sterling has suffered badly since the EU referendum - but has it fallen against every world currency?
With that in mind, we have developed a fun (and slightly depressing in equal measure) quiz to test your forex knowledge.
One mark for each answer of the nation the note is from and the name of the currency, and another if you guess correctly whether the pound has risen or fallen against it since June 23 (answers at the end of the article).
1. Where are these old fashioned looking notes from, and do you get more or less now for £1 than before the Brexit vote?
2. Yes, it's a €50 note – but which European country is it from and will sterling get you fewer of them now than before 23 June?
3. The Bank of England has recently issued its first polymer note, but this country has been doing it for years and they are out of this world. Where is it and has this currency strengthened versus the pound since the Brexit vote?
4. This country is suffering from an economic growth problem, despite having two huge summer events in the last three years - even the note looks slighty concerned:
5. A beautiful shark note. But you wouldn't want to end up in the unusual name of this currency belonging to the fierce predator:
6. Around half a million sheep live here - way outnumbering the number of inhabitants - and feature on this note, along with a family of cute penguins:
7. This country has suffered massively from hyper-inflation, hence the note below sounding a little Dr.Evil from film Austin Powers. It now mainly uses American dollars:
8. There are remote places and then there is this spot. Still, it is worth a visit just to get your hands on some of these splendid notes:
9. Right, this is getting hard now – give yourself a firm pat on the back if you managed to get this one right. Okay, we'll give you a (small) clue, the currency name begins with a 'Q':
10. A mesmerising note of shear elegance. Okay, this quiz has got to my head now, but this snow leopard note would be a welcome addition to the collection of any currency fan:
Bonus. You might find it difficult to even get into this country in order to spend this note:
