YouView project is put on hold

BT, ITV and Channel 4 have had to push back the launch of their ambitious assault on the pay-TV market into next year.

The delay to the YouView project - a ground-breaking service to bring video-on-demand to Freeview - was first reported by the Daily Mail last month.

The service was originally scheduled to go live by the summer.

But because of the 'scale and complexity' of the project consumers won't be able to get their hands on the new set-top boxes until 'early' 2012, YouView admitted.
