ECB candidate Weber rules himself out

The race for the top job at the European Central Bank was thrown into confusion after leading candidate Axel Weber appeared to rule himself out.

Weber told officials at Germany's Bundesbank that he is not interested in a second term in charge of the central bank in Frankfurt.

That calls into question whether he will be available to succeed Jean-Claude Trichet as president of the ECB, the world's second most powerful central bank behind the US Federal Reserve.
