BAA (down 2 1 /2 p to 663p) reported 7pc growth at its seven UK airports in November compared with a year earlier.

AIM-quoted NRP, parent company of stockbroker Teather & Greenwood, made a half-year pre-tax profit of £0.4m against a £70,000 loss last time. There is no dividend.

Newly-floated pub operator Honeycombe Leisure, chaired by rail entrepreneur Sandy Anderson, reported a maiden interim pre-tax profit of £0.8m, up from

£0.6m. There is no dividend.

Investors claimed a victory after newly-merged Royal Life & Sun Alliance confirmed it would continue to run its three with-profits life assurance companies separately.
