Stanley's stumble

July 15 may seem late in the year for a post-mortem on the Grand National, but the City will be quizzing Stanley Leisure management at Thursday's annual results announcement.

Britain's fourth-biggest bookie blamed 'disappointing' income from the race for a profits warning in April. Betting profits are thought to have been poor all season, but Stanley's regional casinos have done better.

It promised year-to-May profits of 'not less than £23m' when it bought casino operator Capital Corporation. Analysts expect £23.4m profits, with 5.21p dividends.

Border Television's ITV cash cow is funding its rapid expansion into radio, where it has 10.4m potential listeners.

Year-to-April results are due on Monday. Analysts expect £2m profits before exceptionals and 8.4p dividends.
