Cable boost for lastminute
Lastminute.com, the online travel shopping company which floated on the stock market earlier this week today is to provide its travel and shopping service to cable company NTL, it announced today.
The online company will provide a range of holiday, flight and hotel deals over NTL's interactive digital TV services.
Sep Riahi, vice president of business development, said he hoped the initial deal could be extended to NTL's other channels in the future.
NTL is pushing aggressively into the Internet market and last week announced a free Internet service for its cable customers. The company is also bidding for one of the next generation mobile phone licences, currently being auctioned by the Government.
The announcement at first gave a modest lift to lastminute.com shares, but the stock later fell back 5p to stand at 382 1/2 p - just fractionally above its 380p issue price.Lastminute.com already has deals to provide its services to mobile phone operators Orange and BT Cellnet and cable companies Telewest and Cable & Wireless Communications, which is currently subject to a takeover by NTL.
