Online Classics diva-sifies
Internet broadcaster Online Classics has secured the rights to four concerts at the recently restored Paris opera house, Le Chatelet.
Some online opera buffs would not yet have the broadband communications technology to view the concerts clearly, an Online Classics spokesman said. But it aimed to have 'first mover advantage' in the niche market for when they did. A concert on 27 March featuring Julia Migenes had covered its costs, he added.
The first three Chatelet concerts would feature English tenor Ian Bostridge, US mezzo-soprano Dawn Upshaw, Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne-Sofie von Otter, while the fourth performance would be by a US singer to be named later, the company said.
Online Classics, which plans to broadcast one exclusive internet event per month this year, is seeking a Nasdaq listing in addition to its listing on London's Alternative Investment Market.
