Profits slip at Goshawk

Goshawk Insurance Holdings chairman David Hawker today admitted that the 'general improvement' he predicted in 1999 is still some way off. The year 2000 would be 'interesting', he added.

Goshawk, the first listed insurer at Lloyd's, said pretax profits slipped 13% to £6 million in 1999, and earnings per share fell 1.5p to 6.4p. A final dividend up 0.2p at 2.2p makes a total 0.3p lower at 3.5p.

Gross written premiums more than doubled to £85.4 million but operating profits slid 24% to £4.2 million.
