Sunday share tips
The following is a round-up of share tips from the experts writing in the Sunday newspapers.
THE SUNDAY TIMES
Rolls-Royce appears to have regained some of the confidence it lost after an earlier profits warning. Full-year results this week are expected to show strong underlying growth, so its shares look good at 202p. CGNU, the insurance and financial services group, should please investors with results at the upper end of expectations on Tuesday. It is tipped as a strong buy at 965p. Teamtalk.com, the sports-media group which floated in 1999 has a war chest of £42m set aside for acquisitions. It has a solid background having provided sports news since 1988 and its shares look a buy at 18 1/2p.
THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
Galen, the speciality pharmaceuticals group, is in good health after a 24% rise in operating profits for the last three months of 2000. Galen's share price stands at 946p and could soon make the FTSE 100 Index. Shares in Oasis Healthcare, the UK's only quoted dental business, currently stand at 27 1/2p but should rise on the back of further acquisitions and an imminent move into profit. Sanctuary Group, the world's largest independent music catalogue owner, is making inroads into the US market and is expected to announce a profits surge of 80% this year. Shares at 71 3/4p look cheap.
THE OBSERVER
Surgical-wound dressings group Advanced Medical Solutions may have turned the corner after a disappointing time since coming to the market in 1994. With sales growing, the group could be worth a look at 25p. Tate & Lyle may be a risk worth taking at 260p. This year will be a pivotal one after shifting its focus from sugar to starch. With prices on the up, it may be that the worst is over for the starch industry.
THE SUNDAY EXPRESS
Investors in the housebuilder Crest Nicholson have seen shares soar to 242p in recent weeks. But there may be further to go, with the favourable interest-rate climate buoying the sector.
Baltimore Technologies has suffered from poor sentiment towards tech stocks, and at 246 1/2p shares are at their lowest for more than a year. However, the company is well positioned to exploit the potential of the e-security market. The potential of children's TV programme Butt-Ugly Martians has lifted intellectual property rights media company Just Group. The company's share price has doubled since the turn of the year to 11 1/2p but should go further.
MAIL ON SUNDAY
Waterford Wedgwood, the manufacturer of crystalware and fine bone china, looks ready to deliver for investors in the medium term. The shares are considered a buy at 85p, with full-year figures next month set to be robust. Investing in pharmaceuticals companies is always risky but Shire Pharmaceuticalslooks worthwhile at 1272p. Its new drugs are selling well and the company is generating a healthy cash pile. Shares in print management group Access Plus have performed strongly since the company's flotation in 1996. With steady growth and high level of repeat business, Access Plus is a long-term buy at 435p.
