Wolves extends takeover deadline

The battle for Britain's largest regional brewer, Wolverhampton & Dudley, has hotted up after the group extended its deadline for offers by two weeks following 'recent increased interest'.

The group, which has four breweries and 1,700 pubs including the Pitcher & Piano chain, said it had extended the deadline for receipt of formal offers from April 5 to noon on 20 April. This was 'as a result of the recent increased interest expressed', the group said.

It added any formal offers received before the deadline would be given 'appropriate consideration by the independent directors', but added there remained no certainty a satisfactory formal offer would be received.
