Young guns
WITH two notable exceptions, they are not people who you would recognise in the street. But what they lack in fame they more than make up for in fortune. According to The Mail on Sunday's Rich Report 2001, these are the ten richest people in Britain aged 30 or under:
Jamey Hargreaves, £158m
Although the Hargreaves clan has seen £800m wiped off the value of their Matalan fashion firm shares during the past year, Jamey, 30, whose 8.46% holding makes up part of the family's 52% stake, is never likely to work a market stall like his father.
Reuben Singh, £82m
Britain's fastest-rising young entrepreneur, Reuben, 24, was a self-made millionaire at 17 - a feat that got him into the Guinness Book of Records. The Mancunian fashion tycoon made a reputed £22m two years ago when he sold his first store chain to Knickerbox.
Tahir Mohsan, £60m
Workaholic Tahir, 29, the son of Pakistani immigrants who opened a corner shop in Blackburn, has made £60m from the cut-price computer company Time. He started with a small mail-order company above his parents' shop and is now the biggest employer in Burnley.
Alexander de Brye, £53m
The 26-year-old winemaker inherited £30m nine years ago from his mother, Countess Barbara de Brye, daughter of an Australian property tycoon. The former Millfield public schoolboy now owns the Hanzell winery in California. He also inherited a 16th Century manor in Wiltshire.
Adam Twiss and Damian Reeves, £51m each
Cambridge graduates Adam, 25, and Damian, 27, laid the foundations of the astonishingly successful Zeus Technology in a bedroom when they were both studying for their computer degrees.
Lucas White, £50m
Businessman Lucas, 26, married to It-Girl Normandie Keith, inherited the bulk of his fortune from his father Lord White, who built the Hanson conglomerate. The polo-playing tax-exile trained as an investment analyst and is cleverly building on his wealth.
Alistair Gosling, £43m
College dropout Alistair, 29, is set to become one of Britain's youngest media moguls. His company Extreme Group, which makes and distributes TV programmes about high-adrenalin sports such as heli-skiing, is planning to float on the stock market with a £50m price tag. Gosling has an 87% stake in the group.
Princes William and Harry, £41m
Princess Diana was determined her sons would be independently wealthy and left them £21.5m. After paying death duties the remaining £13m was split into trust funds, each of which will now be worth at least £8.9m. Their grandmother, the Queen, has given them a further £13m.
Andrew Foyle, £37m
The new wireless internet phones have been beset with problems, but Foyle, 29, has overcome most of them. His Argo Interactive Group now employs more than 70 people with offices in California and Tokyo. Foyle, who started the company in Guildford, Surrey, with his father's retirement nest eggs, owns 37% of the company tipped to float on the stock market at £100m.
