SEM aims to score with £30m float
CHELSEA'S imminent multi-million signing of Emmanuel Petit will be watched not only by fans but also by new shareholders in The Sport Entertainment & Media Group, which is about to float on the Alternative Investment Market.
Petit is one of more than 80 soccer stars managed by SEM. The group is majority owned by Jerome Anderson, who founded it in 1984. Other players managed by SEM include Tony Adams, Matt Le Tissier, Ian Walker and Thierry Henry.
SEM plans to raise £10m through an institutional share placing, which should capitalise it at about £30m. The money will be used in part to expand the group's football interest and also to take it further into other sports. It has recently expanded into Formula One motor racing and professional golf.
The group extends its sports management beyond the end of its clients' playing careers. It still manages Charlie Nicholas and Ian Wright, who has moved from soccer into chatshow host, signing up with the BBC for Saturday night's Friends Like These.
