Sunday Telegraph
Discount retailer Peacock delivered an upbeat trading statement last week, helped by the growth of its newly acquired Bon Marche clothing chain and the revamp of its core stores. Buy at 87p.
CA Coutts, the point-of-sale display and packaging firm, is now focused on higher margin in-store marketing with a client list that includes a long-term deal with Disney. The company, whose shares are 86p, is well positioned to grow.
Property company Halladale has joined forces with Kodak to set up a £50 million fund for acquisitions as part of its plan to quadruple in size. Property is a defensive sector and shares are worth a punt at 48p.
Sunday Times
Construction group Kier has a record of growth but its shares have suffered from fears over the housing market. At 444p, the quality of the business is not fully recognised and patient investors should build a position.
Sunday Express
GKN, an engineer to the auto and aerospace industries, has started the year strongly and it is thought the impact of a Gulf War on car sales will be muted. Analysts reckon the stock, at 179p, is worth 299p.
'Premium' customers switching down to BSkyB's basic package are believed to have hit the broadcaster, although a price target of 815p should be achievable from the current 560p without an increase in the number of premium customers.
IT services group Microgen is expected to issue better-than-expected results this week after delivering the planned benefits of recent acquisitions. Shares are 20 1/2p and analysts have a short-term target of 30p.
