Judgment day for Kevin Maxwell
IT is judgment day for Kevin Maxwell. The youngest son of former Mirror Group boss Robert is in court today to face bankruptcy proceedings - for the second time.
The first was in 1992 when he was declared Britain's biggest bankrupt with debts of more than £400m. He was discharged three years later.
Maxwell remains adamant that he will get off this time. 'It's entirely procedural. And it's all going to be withdrawn,' he said. 'It was a commercial and not a personal matter. I'd given a personal guarantee and that has now been resolved.'
The £300,000 guarantee related to a deal between Maxwell's investment firm Meynard Freres and Gibraltar-based Global Investments. Earlier this month, a High Court winding-up petition against Meynard Freres - supported by Global - was withdrawn.
The adjourned hearing is due to be heard at Oxford County Court. Global's solicitors Beachcroft Wansbroughs refused to comment.
