Unilever Polman's warning

Unilever boss Paul Polman has warned that further government tinkering with tax and regulation could push the consumer goods giant offshore.

The threat from one of the country's biggest firms, with roots dating back to the 1890s, highlights the frustration felt by businesses about Labour's numerous changes to the tax regime.

Polman told the Mail: 'We do have choices where we put research laboratories, choices for manufacturing facilities and choices where we put our senior management.'

Amidst the economic slowdown Polman warned: 'If on top of that we would get an additional regulatory or tax environment that would make us non-competitive that would be unfortunate for the UK.'
