There is a growing interest from the food production industry in a plant called Stevia rebaudiana. This plant, which is native to South America, can be used to produce sweettasting sugar-like products.
For British investors there is a simple route to gain some exposure to this fast-developing market - the Aim-listed company PureCircle.

Asian-facing bank Standard Chartered is focused on emerging economies such as China which are expected to drive growth in the year ahead rather than heavily indebted Western economies.
The bank largely escaped the worst excesses of the credit crunch and shares have risen 44% since last June. Buy at 1784p.
Primary Healthcare Properties, which builds and owns GP surgeries and other medical facilities, is paying a healthy 6% dividend and has carved a niche in an otherwise troubled property sector.
With spending on health likely to remain largely intact whoever wins the election, the shares are tipped at 290p.

Most people view Associated British Foods as essentiallty Primark with a few goodies - and not so goodies - on the side.
But it has proved one of the most defensive bluechips and a solid performer.
At 15 times earnings is great for the long term, but there may be better value to be had elsewhere right now. Hold.
