What should I do after redundancy?
My company has just started a redundancy consultation process and I'm facing the loss of my job. What advice do you have for me?

On the move: Advice can help to ensure your next move is the right one
Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute, says: As your employer is only beginning a consultation period, there is no guarantee you will lose your job, but it is worth making the effort to be ready for a job hunt.
Take time to think through your options and you will be in a stronger position if redundancy happens.
Redundancy can feel like a personal attack, but given the current climate - with job losses at their highest level for over a decade - it is more likely to be about head count.
Remember that job loss in the current climate is unlikely to reflect your ability, so don't do anything that will jeopardise your future.
If you quit rather than face redundancy, you may lose financial benefits, while being rude to colleagues will only burn bridges - your current employer is often your next source for a reference.
Redundancy services can provide guidance on CV writing, interview technique and job searches. Advice can help to ensure your next move is the right one.
Understandably, most people rush headlong into the first job that is offered, but you must take a step back and focus on your finances and professional needs.
Look for a job that you want in its own right. If money is an urgent issue, consider temping or interim work.
It is important to stay positive. Job hunting is not easy but a positive attitude will reflect itself in your behaviour, making you more appealing to potential employers.
