KFC won't pay my son
During his summer vacation, my student son completed one shift at an Edinburgh branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken. KFC said he would be paid in about a fortnight's time.
He did not hear from them, and when he called in before returning to university, he was told that it would be too much hassle and paperwork to pay him, and that he should just forget it.
I have written on his behalf to both KFC's head office and the local branch with no response. The amount is small, but as a point of principle, I feel he should be paid. G.B.L., Edinburgh.
Margaret Stone, the Daily Mail's money doctor, replied: I quite agree with you. And more to the point, so too does Herbel Restaurants, the franchise which owns and operates the Kentucky Fried Chicken in question.
Neither KFC head office nor Herbel seem to have any record of the letters you wrote to them. Incomplete paperwork and a breakdown in communication appear to be the culprits.
As soon as I alerted KFC to your complaint, it contacted Herbel which responded with an immediate apology and your son should by now have received his back- dated net wages of £36.80.
