Holiday cancellation clause
WE HAVE a small hotel on the west coast of Scotland. I am trying to find insurance to cover our family holiday to Greece in June in the event that we have to cancel because our relief management for whatever reason pull out. I have tried several companies and also asked our broker who insures the hotel and have drawn a blank. Can you help?CN, Argyll
Peter Gerrard of insuresupermarket.com says: Cancellation cover can start off from as little as £750 to as much as £5,000.
Some budget policies will not even include it as part of the cover provided so it's imperitive when buying a policy that you look at the level of cancellation cover but also the terms under which it is offered.
I have looked at some policy wordings and many exclude cover for 'Any cancellation or curtailment caused by work commitment, or amendment of your holiday entitlement by your employer.'
Adrian Lowery of This is Money adds: So it looks like one option is to do a policy seach with our travel insurance search engine and trawl through the results, scouring the terms and condition for one that does not contain the exclusion highlighted by Peter above.
Alternatively, you can call the British Insurance Brokers Association on 0870 950 1790, because they should be able to put you in touch with brokers who specialise in travel insurance and who might be able to find a policy that covers what you want.
