Baffled by BT broadband
AFTER several attempts to sign up for broadband we have been told once again that BT cannot provide the ADSL line. We only live three miles from two exchanges on a big private residential estate where most people would welcome broadband. Why are BT ignoring this potential goldmine? Why should we still be missing out while BT and others are speeding up their existing services?
Cath New from the BT Broadband Team replied: BT provides coverage to 99.6% of houses in the UK. This is the broadest and most extensive coverage in Europe and we are working hard to forge partnerships with local councils to extend broadband to the 0.4% of people who still don't have access.
However, broadband itself is a reach technology. We are doing everything possible to push the boundaries and develop new technologies that will enable us to counteract these limits, but it means that in some cases the laws of physics simply prevent a household from having access to these kinds of services.
This is Money adds: BT has offered to look into individual cases for This is Money readers. Please email us with your details, including address and landline phone number, with "BT Broadband access" in the subject line. We will forward them onto BT.
