A mother's bond

I believe my mother may have been mis-sold an L&G with-profits income bond through Bradford & Bingley in 2001. How can I make a claim on her behalf? AC, Dartford

Iris Baker, at the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), says: 'You can act on behalf of your mother in making a claim against Bradford & Bingley to the FOS, providing she signs a straightforward letter authorising you to do so.

'Before you make a claim, however, you should first make your complaint to the company itself. If you do not receive a response that you find satisfactory in eight weeks, you can call our consumer helpline on 0845 080 1800 or write to us, enclosing the letter, at: Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR.'
