The blacklist blues
How do I permanently remove County Court Judgements (CCJs) from my credit file? I am able to pay the debts but was advised against as I would not be able to remove the CCJs for six years anyway. I am concerned that as a director of my company I could lose a deal due to a credit search. What can I do? J. McD, Birmingham.
Jill Sevens of credit reference agency Experian says: It is true that a CCJ stays on the public record and therefore on credit reference agency databases for six years from the date of judgement but a judgement showed as unpaid will effect your ability to get future credit far more than one that is recorded as having been paid, so regardless of your earlier advice you should pay them if you are able to.
Then go to the County Court and get a Certificate of Satisfaction. That means that the public records will be updated to show you have paid and that will eventually reach the databases of the credit reference agencies. But that could take some time so you may want to send the original of the Certificate of Satisfaction to the agencies and they will update your records immediately.
