Do unit trusts go ex-dividend in a similar way to shares? If so, about how long before the dividend date is the ex-dividend date? PN, Coventry.

Anne McMeehan of the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds (AUTIF) says: Yes, unit trust have ex-dividend dates like shares. The date varies - usually it is six to eight weeks before the dividend. To find out which ex-dividend dates are coming up, contact individual companies.

The easiest way is to go to the AUTIF website, which lists AUTIF members an has links to their individual sites, which give details of dividend dates and contact details where you can find out ex-dividend dates.
