Deciphering the acronyms
What do the following acronyms stand for? NAV, IPO, EPS, P/E?. Haydn, Wimbledon.
Linda Whitney says: NAV stands for Net Asset Value. This is the value of the underlying investments of an investment trust (i.e. the shares in which it invests) divided by the number of investment trust shares in issue. It is usually quoted as NAV per share. IPO stands for Initial Public Offering, otherwise known as a new share issue.
EPS stands for earnings per share. This is the net profit distributed to shareholders divided by the share price and it changes as the share price changes. P/E represents the price/earnings ratio. This is the market price of a share divided by the earnings per share over the latest 12 month period.
