Should I be heading to Europe?
I want to invest in a maxi ISA that offers good long-term growth (five years-plus) and I want to invest in Europe. What are your views about this sector? Can you recommend any long-term bets? AM, Leicester.
Kim North, independent financial adviser at Pretty Financial says: Europe looks good long-term at present. The US and UK are at the top of their growth cycle, and currently stagnant so we are unlikely to see any double-digit rise in an average fund's growth over the next year.
But Europe looks set to grow because the euro, currently at an all-time low, needs strengthening. European Central Banks are likely to act to bolster it up - which could ultimately lead to good corporate profits. This should be reflected in fund growth, especially in Germany because it is the biggest of the EC economies. As for particular funds, look at Invesco European Growth, Jupiter Select European, Schroder's European, and Gartmore European Opportunities.
