Divorce and pensions

If I divorced and half my husband's pension was transferred to me, would I get it on his retirement or mine? I will retire in six years and I do not have a pension. He retires in 20 years time. MW, Basingstoke.

Lee Robertson, independent financial adviser with Investment Quorum, says: You would receive your part of the pension based upon the retirement date of your former husband. He is under no obligation to retire early to provide you with an income. You should also be cautious in regard to re-marrying as this can have a detrimental effect on your potential award by the courts.
