Looking for Lincoln
NEWLY arrived in London in 1980, I was approached by a saleswoman in the street who persuaded me to invest £16 and later £8 per month into the Lincoln Women's Key Plans. My aim was to provide me with some big lump sums when I am around 60! I've lost track of Lincoln. How can I tell how these plans are doing? Are they worth continuing with or should I change to another plan or long term investment? LM, Kinghorn.
Linda Whitney says: I tracked down Lincoln via the website the Association of British Insurers www.abi.org.uk, which has a list of its member insurers and links to their websites - useful for anyone who has 'lost' a company.
Lincoln still exists though it has moved to Gloucester and no longer has representatives selling it products in the street or in people's houses. The form should send you annual updates about how you policies are doing but if you don't get them, call it's pension valuations line on 01452 374 000 or go to the website www.lincoln-financial.uk.com.
Once you know how they are doing you can decide if there are better options open to you. Ask the form for information about how much is in your fund and how much it pension it might be likely to provide. you can then compare these figures with the same kinds of figures from other companies.
