Footlights and funding
CAN I advertise for investors in a new company to put on theatrical productions? E, Margate.
Linda Whitney says: There is nothing to stop you advertising for investors assuming this is a straightforward theatrical company.
You do not even have to establish it as formal company - if you want to operate as a sole trader or as a partnership with other investors you can simply decide between yourselves what shares of the set-up cost you will each put in and how it will be structured.
If you want to formally establish a limited company you can register it for £20 at Companies House, which means putting in a memorandum and articles of association to indicate the company's aims and how it will be governed. Go to the Companies House website at www.companieshouse.gov.uk for more information.
Whatever you do it would be wise to seek legal advice. If you thought that advertising for investors meant you had to be regulated by the financial services regulators, don't worry - you don't need to contact the Financial Services Authority unless you intend to offer financial services.
