The portfolio of shares have been hand picked by Andrew Oxlade, investment correspondent for This Is Money. Here he explains the strategy behind the portfolilo...
'Our portfolio is structured for balance and to give steady growth over the long-term - longer than five years. To achieve this, we have avoided putting all our eggs in one basket by picking shares from different sectors. So if telecoms take off again our winner benefits from Vodafone; if the global economy takes a further turn for the worse defensive stocks like Tesco should stand up well because people still need to eat when times are hard.

Some relatively high-yielding stocks were also included so that the competition winner can expect a reasonable income from the portfolio.
The ideal portfolio would hold 30 stocks - we have included 10 so as to keep down dealing costs for our winner in proportion to the size of the investment.'
