WHILE the number of undergraduates working part-time during term has gone up significantly in recent years, most still prefer to work full-time during vacations so that their studies are not affected by the need to earn money.

Most students can no longer afford to spend their summers hitch-hiking around Europe.

The National Union of Students estimates that 42% work during term time, while 90% work at some stage. This suggests that most jobs are taken during holidays to help pay off debts.

But unpaid work experience is still a popular option for those with fewer financial worries. A recent Mori survey found that 13% of students had found work experience positions while at college, more than half hoping it would help them find a good job after graduation.
