Equitable worth?

HOW can I find out how much my five Equitable Life unit-linked maximum investment plans are worth? I have not had a valuation from Equitable since March 2000. IG, Cambridge

James Dalby from independent financial advisers Bates Investment Services says: Equitable should send you at least one valuation statement every year. Not to have received one in 2001 is unacceptable, and I am not sure why that should be the case.

In fact, on its website Equitable confirms that annual statements are sent to help policyholders keep track of the progress of their plans, so they do have a stated commitment to sending them.

Contact Equitable and request a statement be sent immediately either by ringing its Client Servicing Centre on 0870 901 0052, or log on to its website at www.equitable.co.uk. The website also has a Funds section, which provides up to date unit prices as well as past performance information including graphs.

Without knowing which funds you are invested in, it is difficult to comment on the performance of your investment.

However, as with most investment providers, Equitable has some good funds and some bad funds. But it is worth noting that Equitable is now benefiting from the investment management resources of the HBOS group, whose investment management division is currently aiming to be a seriously competitive performer.
