Private moves

I HAVE shares in a company that moved, so I cannot track it down. How can I find it? I think it may be a private company. How do I go about selling the shares? ML. Bristol.

Linda Whitney says: Look for it on the Companies House website ( www.companieshouse.gov.uk). You should be able to find the company's address.

If it is not a listed company then you will have to sell the shares privately . Individual companies have their own arrangement for this, detailed in their articles of association, which can also be seen on the Companies House website (though you have to pay £5 for this information).

As private companies are not listed on stock markets, valuing the shares is not simply a question of getting a price from the market - you will need to consult a professional such as an accountant about this.
