Have we been tricked?
WHILE on holiday in Tenerife we paid £5,000 to join a holiday club. Now we can't reach them on the phone or find their website. What can we do and how can we get our money back? T.I. Northampton
Sandy Grey from the Timeshare Consumers Association says: Contact us via our website and we may be able to give you contact details for the company and tell you if it still exists.
If, when you contact them it turns out that you are registered as a member, there may be little you can do, as you have already received what you paid for, i.e. membership. But if the company says it has never heard of you, this may be good news.
It may mean the marketer of the scheme did not pass on your details to the company and you may be able to claim back the money.
If you paid by credit card, speak to your local Citizens Advice Bureau about claiming a refund from your credit card issuer.
The Timeshare website also carries information about cancellation rights and getting your money back.
The Office of Fair Trading is warning people about the activities of some holiday clubs. Click here for details.
