Banking on the dividend

I have some Barclays bank shares I wish to sell in a few weeks time but do not wish to miss the dividend date. Can you tell me the date on which the sale would not affect the payment of the dividend which is due in May? DL, Sandbach.

Richard Hunter at Fyshe Group stockbrokers says: 'In order to retain the dividend, you need to be a shareholder as at the 'ex dividend' date, which for the current period is 25 February, 2004. If you sell the shares on this date or afterwards, you will retain the dividend of 13.45p per share (20.5p in total for the full year) and payment for this current dividend is due on 30 April, 2004.
