Married woman's stamp
WHAT has happened to the pressure group campaigning on the 'married woman's stamp'? I assume 'nothing' might be the answer. I have worked for 40 years and will receive a pittance for a state pension while women who left work/had children and never worked outside the home again will receive full pension rights. G.H., Durham
Des Hamilton of the Pensions Advisory Service Opas says: This issue was a hot story for a short time but the Government made it clear that it would not be changing the rules.
The matter appears to have been dropped when the Government produced copies of literature from the period in question which made it clear that women paying the reduced stamp would not qualify for the State basic pension.
When you reach 60 and your husband reaches 65 you can receive a pension of up to 60% based on your husband's National Insurance contributions.
