Firm ordered to end shoddy work
A replacement-window and conservatories company accused of shoddy workmanship and unfair charges has been told to clean up its act or face court action after a flood of complaints to local trading standards officers.
Advanced Windows (Scotland) Ltd, trading as Advanced Windows and Conservatories, manufactures and installs replacement windows and doors, and conservatories.
More than 160 of its customers complained of poor quality work or unfair contract terms.
Following intervention by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), the company, of Law Place, Nerston, East Kilbride, has given undertakings that it will no longer supply goods that are not fit for the job or are not as described by the company. It has also promised that future work will be carried out with the degree of skill and competence customers would expect and not to rely on unfair terms in its contracts.
One term allowed the company to vary the design or specification of installations without notice and another demanded a £50 inspection fee for remedial work covered by its guarantee.
The OFT said that if Advanced Windows breached the undertakings it could face an action for contempt of court.
