Barclays' Saturday siesta
If you're a small business customer of Barclays Bank and need to do your banking over the counter on a Saturday - forget it. Barclays is the only high street bank which bars its business customers from its branches at the weekend.
In the light of the revised banking code it is surprising that Barclays should take such a inflexible approach. Many customers who run a small business are busy during the week and rely on Saturdays to make transactions.
But Alistair Smith, small business banking communications officer at Barclays, says: 'This is not a change in Barclays standpoint. It has been our policy for a number of years to keep Saturdays for retail customer banking only. Our business customers can use the telephone and internet banking service and if they have cash they don't want to hold over the weekend, it can be paid into night safes.'
Both Barclays and Lloyds have come in for heavy criticism in recent months with regard to their plans for certain branch closures. Clink on the link to the Mail on Sunday's recent campaign
