Setback for Pinewood Shepperton project

Pinewood Shepperton, where parts of The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, starring the late Heath Ledger and Lily Cole, were filmed, suffered a serious setback after its plans for a £200million movie lot were thrown out.

South Bucks Council rejected Pinewood's application to turn 100 acres of green belt into a movie set, including re-creations of streets in New York, Paris and Venice, saying residents would have suffered serious disruption.

Project Pinewood would have also seen 1,500 homes built, plus a school, a theatre and, of course, a cinema. 

The studio planned to create 960 jobs at the site by 2022 and feels there is a case for the decision to be overturned in an appeal.

Pinewood, which signalled that turnover remains below last year's level, revealed that investment group Crystal Amber has raised its stake from 7 to nearly 12 per cent.
