Credit crunch budgets spark the comeback of the British milkman
The milkman is making a comeback, according to Britain's leading dairy firm, which has seen a marked upturn in doorstep deliveries.
Dairy Crest (up 23.2p to 400p) is expanding its Milk & More concept to all of its 127 depots.
Customers can order their items online, ranging from the usual milk, butter and cheese, and also buy 150 other daily essentials including meat, juice and pet food. And so long as the email is sent before 9pm, the items are delivered the following morning by 6.30am.
Creme de la creme: Dairy Crest sales rose 10 per cent over the last six months
DC currently has 100,000 customers registered, which it expects to grow to 1.3million. Shares rose 23.2p to 400p after chief executive Mark Allen said milk sales for the six months to September had risen 10 per cent after the firm won new supply contracts.
