Seth Meyers offers humiliating insult to Biden as he tries to attack Trump
NBC Late Night host Seth Meyers took aim at Donald Trump, but landed his most cutting blow on former president Joe Biden.
During Wednesday night's A Closer Look segment, Meyers began by mocking Trump for giving himself an 'A+++++' grade on the economy, despite rising prices and data showing economic conditions have worsened.
He joked that Trump's wildly inflated self-assessment might have been a 'software problem,' quipping: 'It's possible Trump was just glitching.'
But the sharpest laugh came when Meyers dismissed ongoing efforts to blame Biden for the nation's economic struggles.
'Seriously, you can't blame Joe Biden anymore,' Meyers said. 'Honestly, no one even remembers that he was president - himself included. That was just a weird fugue state in between Trump terms.'
He compared Biden's presidency to a forgotten New York City apartment - one you vaguely recall living in and barely believe existed.
'Everyone remembers their first apartment. Everyone knows where they live now,' Meyers said. 'But once in a while you think to yourself, 'Wait a second - did I really live in a studio above the BQE, and did I really think it was an upgrade because instead of a mattress on the floor in the kitchen, it was a futon on the floor in the kitchen?'
NBC Late Night Host Seth Meyers didn't hold back as he skewered both former President Joe Biden and current president Donald Trump over their claims regarding national finances
Meyers reserved a pointed dismissal for attempts by the Trump administration to blame the prior administration's policies for the economic woes: 'Seriously, you can't blame Joe Biden anymore! 'Honestly, no one even remembers that he was president, himself included'
'So it's less of an A++++,' Meyers said, 'and more of an F minus minus minus minus.'
Throughout the rest of his segment, Meyers highlighted grim economic data: private sector job losses hit 32,000 in November, the steepest decline in five years, while 1.2million jobs have been cut so far this year.
'You never want to hear that something is the worst since 2020,' he quipped, recalling the pandemic era when he filmed from his attic 'like the ghost of a J.Crew manager.'
Myers cited inflation remains stubborn, with grocery and energy costs driving a 3 percent annual price increase. Heating bills are projected to jump 7.6 percent for gas and 10 percent for electricity.
'Heating your house is going to be so expensive this winter, you're going to have no choice but to go out back and chop some wood,' Meyers joked, before admitting, 'If I had to chop wood to survive, I would freeze to death.'
He blamed soaring electricity costs partly on AI data centers, in which he sarcastically noted: 'Next month, when you get your electricity bill and it's 10 percent higher, just be happy knowing that 10 percent made it possible for your weird uncle to post an AI Facebook meme of Rambo and Jesus Christ riding a Harley together.'
Meyers concluded that Trump is running up against the same problem as the previous administration
When asked by Politico what grade he'd give his economy, Trump replied: 'A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus.'
Meyers deadpanned: 'It's possible Trump was just glitching. In fact, if you watch the full clip, I think it's pretty clear it was a software problem.'
He closed with a reality check: 'You can't convince people the economy is good when they can see the truth with their own eyes every time they buy groceries or pay their heating bills.'
